#ImageOfTheDay

02ace428943703.55dacee87ce91Welcome back! After a brief hiatus, we’re back with image of the day; we missed the blog very much indeed. As we said on yesterday’s update, things have been exceptionally hectic at Thortful HQ, and the entire team is going hard in the final few weeks before the launch of the platform. Luckily for us, though, we’ve still managed to be in touch with a variety of amazing creatives around the world.

Today’s image of the day (above) is by Bavarian-born, Berlin-based illustrator and art director Andreas Preis. Andreas has worked with Adidas, DC Comics, Nike, ESPN Magazine and Calvin Klein (among other huge names) to create wonderful, illustrative work, which is always distinct, and his mural on the remnants of the Berlin Wall for YAAM in Central Berlin was no different. YAAM’s been a hotspot and hub for creativity in entertainment in Berlin for quite some time, and Andreas’ mural is not the only one featured on the wall. In terms of style, Andreas has carved out a niche for himself creating beautiful portraiture from dynamic, decisive hatching and straight lines. His animal portraits in particular, like the one above, have been picked up by Landyachtz longboards for a very distinguished, stylish kind of ride. Now when you see Andreas’ work, you’ll know who created it! See behind the scenes of the mural being created at Andreas’ Behance page, or connect with him on instagram.

Buca’s Back in Business

56D2FCA4B30CA460F91009BF34FB2A30C8748FDE95AC2E9049pimgpsh_fullsize_distrWe can confirm that after working remotely from Greece for the last couple of weeks, Buca Pearce has returned to Blighty via Dover, and we’re also happy to announce he’s rocking a new auburn-black ombre coat after hours of sun exposure. The above image was taken after Buca dove into water in the middle of London after thinking pond moss was grass. We’ve all been there.

We digress. The Return of Buca (including dye job and dog shame) can only mean one thing. The radio silence is over.

At Thortful Headquarters we’ve been churning out ideas and honing the platform as much as possible, because our launch date is approaching fast. For the past month or so we’ve been incredibly proud to showcase as many creatives as we could, and we promise we’ll continue (stay tuned to our instagram to see a sneak preview of what’s coming). But that’s not all; the office is packed, the cogs are turning, and the industry overhaul is on the way. Don’t miss it.

#ImageOfTheDay

a day without drawing

As it was a bank holiday this weekend, we skipped Monday Motivation and hope no one noticed (they probably didn’t).

So, what better way to kick off midweek than with an illustration from Bett Norris? We’ve talked about Bett before (see here), but let us reiterate, we think she’s a fantastic creative and exactly the kind of professional whose name, along with her work, should be better known. If you live in the UK, chances are you’ve come face to face with Bett’s work. It’s distinct in style and includes elements of everything from typography, to character and pattern design – you just didn’t know when it was in front of you. Hopefully, we’ve fixed that! Show her some love at her personal website, tumblr, facebook, twitter or instagram (pro tip: her tumblr is a great place to view her works in progress and experimentation).
